In addition to operations here are some of the youth programs that Young Stars supports:

CELEBRATE COURAGE – Building Healthy Relationships: In School Program

Celebrate Courage is an award winning prevention-based program for youth, 12-17 years of age, in Junior and Senior High School to help them build healthy relationships using the performing arts as a vehicle for discussion and learning. The program was developed by Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada in response to escalating rates of violence among teens in Canada and is offered province-wide and free of charge. Celebrate Courage is offered in partnership with the Department of Education, the RCMP, the Canadian Nurses Association and front-line service providers with a focus on violence prevention, personal safety and tools to develop healthy relationships.

BALLET IN THE SCHOOLS- Developing Physical Literacy in Young Children

New Brunswick faces the highest youth obesity rates in Canada. Ballet in the Schools is a unique ballet/movement education program offered to Kindergarten students through-out Greater Moncton and taught by our professional international faculty. The program recognized by the Department of Education in support of physical literacy for young children and is an important development tool for encouraging students to be active for life. There is no fee charged to students for this program.

SPOTLIGHT ON KIDS- Subsidized Seating

This program provides complimentary performance tickets to youth-at-risk and children from low income families in New Brunswick. Participating organizations have included: Boys and Girls Clubs, Big Brothers Big Sisters, United Way, Child Welfare, Teen Resource Centres, and Headstart programs. Contributions go directly to underwriting the cost of purchasing blocks of seats for children and youth at every performance of the Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada where possible. Response to the program has been overwhelmingly positive with hundreds of youth benefitting each year.

The value of exposure to the arts for youth is well documented. Accessibility to the arts plays a key role in intellectual and emotional development of children and youth. Young people who both attend and participate in the arts have a broader base of experience. They become more creative and critical thinkers develop a strong self-image and are more willing to try new experiences. The arts enhance academic performance and communication skills and, help young people to understand their world and experiences in different ways. All children should have sufficient and equal opportunity to experience the arts.
